Bryce Canyon National Park

Bryce Canyon was such a stunning national park. The scenery getting there and the road driving into the park was just a prelude to what we were about to see: unreal sights and pure beauty!

Bryce Canyon is known for their hoodoos, which are rock formations formed by the erosion patterns of hard and soft rock layers. They look like tall eroded columns of rock with a cap, and resemble mushrooms!

After arriving in Bryce Canyon and stopping at Inspiration Point, we hiked the Rim Trail and the Navajo Trail. The Rim Trail is along the ridge above the Canyon and the Navajo Trail is located inside the Canyon.

Because Bryce Canyon is 8,100 feet above sea level I was feeling a little light headed and short of breath on the Rim Trail. Even though it was pretty flat, the sun was beating down and it was very hot! But it was worth it for the unbelievable views of the Canyon from above. Hiking in 90 degree temperatures in high altitude is no joke. We made sure to drink plenty of water and stop along the way to take some breaks.

The Navajo trail took us down to the base of the Canyon, and it was a bit easier to breathe down there. Hiking to the top again was quite challenging! This was equally as beautiful and it was very cool to see the hoodoos towering above us.

That evening, we got pizza at the Valhalla restaurant in the park, sat outside to eat, watched the sunset and escaped to our lodge for some rest before a sunrise wake up and big day at Zion.

Bryce Canyon offers many different kinds of lodging, including hotel style and also cabin style for larger groups or families. We stayed at the Sunset Lodge and it was perfect for us, right near the Rim, and a short walk to view sunrise and sunset.

If you go to Bryce, definitely stay in the park and catch sunrise, it is so beautiful! We had such a nice stay here and felt like we saw a lot in just one day.

Have you ever been? What was your favorite part? Stay tuned for our next day at Zion National Park.
