60 Minutes to Protect the Planet

Happy March!

Have you ever heard of Earth Hour? I just learned about it recently and wanted to share it with you in case you’re interested.

Earth Hour is a worldwide event coordinated by the World Wildlife Fund, along with a few other volunteer organizations, and is meant to shine a light on the need for action on climate change. It will be taking place at 8:30pm (your local time) on March 24, 2018.

During Earth Hour, millions of people, businesses, and landmarks will switch off their lights, host events, and draw attention to climate change action all over the world for 60 minutes.

Although it is only one hour long, Earth Hour is a movement that has actually helped to shape laws and spark real action each year. During last year’s event 187 countries and territories participated, over 3,000 landmarks switched off their lights, and millions of individuals, businesses and organizations across seven continents joined the movement.

Want to celebrate Earth Hour?  The easiest way to join in is by turning off your lights for 60 minutes. During that time you can light candles or go outside and stargaze. You could even put together an Earth Hour party by hosting a candle-lit dinner or set up a donation on your Facebook feed in honor of your favorite cause that day. There’s no wrong way to celebrate as long as you are doing something positive for Earth!

Ryan and I  plan to turn off all our lights, unplug our apartment, and sit on our balcony or outdoor lawn and watch the stars.

This is a great way for people to come together and give our planet a little hug – letting her know that there are millions of people who want to start taking better care of her.

If you’re interested in participating, visit the Earth Hour website to learn more and register. Let me know if you plan to participate! Maybe we can come up with a unique idea for how to celebrate together. 🙂
